1. Declutter your Space

To create a sanctuary in your bedroom, you need to keep your bedroom space neat. An uncluttered room helps you instantly feel calmer when walking into a bedroom.
A bedroom filled with lots of small objects makes the eye dart around the room. One large item on a bureau, bookcase, or table makes a bedroom visually more relaxing. Like having a large headboard makes a bedroom feel grand and luxurious and with it, you would not need many decorative items in a bedroom.

2. Decide the Design Style

Learning how to design a bedroom revolves around cultivating your creative vision. What design style and mood do you wish your bedroom to radiate?
You may consider a variety of bedroom styles before making your final decisions, from minimalist and modern to vibrant and maximalist. Whichever, design style you choose to implement in your bedroom, just stick to it and make all other interior choices ( like furniture, rug, textiles, lighting, etc.) under it. It will help you create a cohesive look in the overall space.

3. Plan your Bedroom Layout

Deciding on the layout of your bedroom furniture is a vital step in bedroom design. Start with the position of your bed, organizing all other furniture around it. It is best to position your bed lengthways in a rectangular room, while larger bedrooms will allow for more creativity, and you may well want to position the bed in the center of the room.
While on contrary to the small bedroom layout, consider moving the bed into a corner to save floor space all around.

4. Choose the Right Color Palette

Peniche-Williams of DAF House says to decide the mood or tone you want to set in your bedroom, choose a color that reflects that feeling. Don’t be afraid to use bold and vibrant colors, but in case you want to keep your bedroom walls in a neutral color then you can opt to hang some bright artwork on your walls to add visual interest.

If adding a painting/artwork is not your priority, don’t worry. There are more effective ways to add a pop of colors to your bedroom. Like making an accent wall, whether with wallpaper or painting it in a bold color. Or, simply forget your walls, and add color by painting an old piece of furniture in your bedroom a fun color (upcycling is so in these days).

5. Pay attention to Lighting Design

A bedroom is a place in our home where we can make the most of the eclectic lighting design because this is the room where we lie back and gaze up. Create diversity with 3 layers of lighting here.
Besides general lighting which illuminates the whole bedroom evenly, use table and floor lamps as a task light for activities that require extra light, like reading.

Lastly, add a third layer of lighting which is Accent/decorative lighting. It is used to highlight specific areas like artwork, feature walls, or plants while keeping the source hidden. Moreover, another important element in bedroom lighting design to be considered is dimmers. They quickly set a mood and create an instantaneous warm, cozy atmosphere.

6. Invest in Practical Bedroom Furniture

The first consideration in choosing bedroom furniture is whether to go for fitted units or freestanding units. This choice will partly be dictated by the area and shape of your bedroom.

Freestanding options can be considerably cheaper than fitted units and can be replaced every few years if you like to switch up your bedroom interior design. If you only have to follow one rule when choosing your bedroom furniture, pick pieces that can propose a double purpose.
Choosing items that have delicate or light-colored frames will help the space feel larger, less formal, and brighter, too.

7. Choose the right size and fabric for the Curtains

In the daytime, we want to maximize the natural light coming into the bedroom so the space feels bigger and brighter. But then of course at night you want the room to be as dark as possible – it’s a tricky balance. Shutters are a great option as you can adjust how much light comes into the room, however, they can be expensive, so a top fabric choice for bedroom curtains is a light, floaty one, combined with a black-out blind.

You want to think about curtain length too, for a more luxurious look we’d recommend going floor-to-ceiling length or hanging them slightly higher than the window.

8. Get posh with a piece of luxury bedroom furniture

We all love the ambiance of Hotel rooms: all the glitz, glamour, and swank that make them look extra special. Most of us want to bring some of that vibe to the home. Remember, that if you want your home’s interior to match the best, then you should invest in the best furnishings and do a mindful selection of décor accessories like mirrors, wall scones, and planters.

Strategically place mirrors in your space. Mirrors can add a level of sophistication to any room, making the space look spacious and larger than its actual size.
